What is art without the muse? Many of western art’s most famous works are depictions of women; but who were these women? Do they have their own stories to share with the world?

While these women’s faces are familiar to viewers around the world, their identities have been largely forgotten. By sharing their stories, host Grace Anna aims to reshape the ways in which we interpret these well-known works, and appreciate them from a new perspective; through the eyes of the women whose image stares back at us.

Each episode focuses our attention on a specific female muse, sharing their important life and legacy. ArtMuse’s mission is to pay dues to the women whose images have been immortalized but whose names have been wrongfully written out of history.

Grace Anna is an art historian and eternal learner with an insatiable curiosity.

She focused on art history for her undergraduate degree at Sarah Lawrence College, and received her MA in art history at NYU Gallatin, where she worked closely with the Institute of Fine Arts.

She started this podcast to advocate for women who have so often been written out of history, despite their immense contributions, and to make a case for their important legacies. On a personal level, the podcast has also allowed Grace Anna to engage with art history outside of traditional avenues, which can so often feel limiting. Through ArtMuse, Grace Anna seeks to transform the pathways that art historians and enthusiasts can take, so that more of us can contribute to the art historical dialogue.

Grace Anna was introduced to Erin through a mutual contact and producer. She had developed the ArtMuse visual identity, created a beautiful website with a clear mission, mapped out the first season, and had written and recorded several episodes. Like many creators, she hit a wall when it came to editing, scoring, and mixing. Enter Kula :)

Our approach was straightforward: preserve the clarity of the vocals and enhance each story's emotion with custom music that deepens the listening experience. Vocals for each episode are perfected by Hannah Jocelyn, and sent to Erin for scoring, mixing, and mastering.

The result is a polished, carefully crafted experience that allows the story of each muse to shine.
